For our birthdays, Courtney and I decided to spend a weekend away together in Park City.
We had the best time.
My Dad loaned us his convertible Corvette, so we felt young and snappy. (And a little too noticed for our tastes.) But it was a fun change from our messy van. We left the girls in their Grandma's care and headed out early Friday morning. Not being in any hurry, we stopped for a late breakfast in Brigham city and took our time enjoying the beautiful drive with the wind in our hair.
Once in Park City, we headed to Main Street. We had a mission. We were trying to see which one of us could find the most expensive, least useful item. And boy, were there a lot of things to choose from. In the end, we found a $480 dollar stuffed fabric monkey. It was a beauty.
When we'd had enough window shopping (that didn't take long), we decided we'd much rather walk through the old restored miners shacks about main street. We spent the rest of the evening meandering through the old streets, looking at the neat old houses and beautiful yards, taking a few ideas for our own. It was the perfect night.
The next day we woke up to winter. 45 degrees! After breakfast, we came back to the room and I took a nap while Courtney watched a football game. When it warmed up, we headed up to the ski resort for some fun. We bought passes and had a ball on the zip line, alpine slide, and the alpine coaster. We shared a sled on the coaster and Courtney ran the controls. I squealed and giggled and we both laughed more in that afternoon than we had in years.
Sunday morning we slept in and then took a little walk along the bike trail before heading home.
This little trip away was the perfect birthday present, one that we hope to make a yearly tradition. We came home refreshed, in love, and recommitted to each other and the girls. Whenever anyone asks us how our weekend was, we always have the same, simple answer.
"We had the best time".
